Tenor Alasdair Kent, currently in his final year as a Resident Artist at The Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, made his professional debut as Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola) in his native Australia in 2013. His operatic repertoire also includes Il conte d’Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Lindoro (L’italiana in Algeri), Ernesto (Don Pasquale), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), and Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi). 2016-17 sees him add Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) and two new Rossini roles, Rodrigo (Otello) and Giocondo (La pietra del paragone), to his repertoire.
In 2016, Mr. Kent was selected by Richard Bonynge as the winner of the Joan Sutherland & Richard Bonynge Foundation Bel Canto Award and the Georg Solti Accademia di Bel Canto Prize, was Second Prize winner in the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation International Vocal Competition, First Prize and Audience Prize winner in the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition and won First Prize in Opera Theater of Pittsburgh's Mildred Miller International Voice Competition. He will sing at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées as a finalist in the Paris Opera Competition in 2017. The tenor has also won awards from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the Giulio Gari Foundation International Vocal Competition, the Opera Index Vocal Competition, the Career Bridges Grant Awards and the Violetta DuPont Vocal Competition. He is a former Emerging Artist with Opera Philadelphia and Filene Young Artist with Wolf Trap Opera, and an alumnus of the Merola Opera Program.
